A vision of a body of cool water surrounded by an unparalleled, Mediterranean resort destination showcasing mountains, homes, golf courses, hotels, gaming, restaurants, and boutiques has came to fruition in spite of the daunting challenge of building a dam in the middle of the desert, which was an engineering feat that was successfully accomplished in May 1991

With the invaluable assistance of William J. Burk, in September 1988, construction began on Lake Las Vegas Resort’s dam and a two-mile long bypass system.  The bypass system is comprised of two pipes that are each 84 inches in diameter and two miles in length and was engineered to convey the flow of the Las Vegas Wash under Lake Las Vegas and into Lake Mead.  The 18-story dam, that is approximately 150 feet high, contains nearly 4.1 million cubic yards of earth and took more than two years to build.  Lake development was completed in 1994.

To date, Lake Las Vegas Resort encompasses exquisite residential offerings in 19 communities, including custom home sites, waterfront and golf villas, resort condominiums and luxury executive homes, world-class resorts, The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas , Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort, and MonteLago Village Resort, as well as the first private Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course in Nevada.

Kings Grant is the largest public private-venture in North Carolina history. Bill Burk formed a joint venture with the State of North Carolina, City of Concord and Lowes Motor Speedway to develop over five miles of five-lane highways, a Regional Airport and full interchange on I-85 and all infrastructure, for a full destination mixed-use commercial district. In 2005 it was named the state's leading tourist attraction with traffic of over 18 million visitors.

The King’s Grant development in Concord, North Carolina is located in the northeast quadrant of the Charlotte Metropolitan Area. It essentially stretches from US Highway 29 north to spill over and well beyond I-85 to Derita Road. Today, it is home to Concord Mills and other retail centers, housing over 3 million square feet of retail, theaters, restaurants and service establishments like convenience stores, banks, etc. It is truly a "Shoppertainment District".

King’s Grant is also home to 8 limited-service hotels. The new 305 room full-service Embassy Suites Hotel opened in January, 2007. It is a true resort and spa in every sense of the word. The management of the Embassy Suites also manages The Rocky River Golf Club at Concord which was developed and is owned by the City of Concord. This course is widely recognized and was designed by Dan Maples. A new Hilton Garden Inn is currently being planned to be located next to The Embassy Suites.

The southeast end of King’s Grant is anchored by Lowes Motor Speedway. This tri-oval racing facility is world renowned and is often referred to as “The Jewel in the NASCAR Crown”. This track is home to the Coca-Cola 600, The Nextel Cup and the Bank of America 500. Over 320 events are held each year at the speedway.

The northwest side of King’s Grant is home to the Concord Regional Airport. Without any scheduled commercial-air traffic, it has become the fourth busiest airport in North Carolina in less than ten years. It was originally built as a 5,500 feet facility but has been expanded to 7,000 feet. It has a full Instrument Landing System (ILS). Over 225 individual aircraft call Concord Regional home.
